Meet Julia Aaryn Montanez!
I met Julia about six years ago at our “temporary place of employment” as we used to say! lol What a great friend I found! In conversation, we soon found out how much we had in common; she was a writer & I an actress. She began telling me about a film festival (SOL Film Festival) she was putting together & I wanted in! Julia is such an amazing, talented writer! I’ve read a few of her scripts and I can tell you, Hollywood is in DIRE need of her content! The film and television industry is lacking originality and Ms. Montanez can definitely help fill in the gaps! I’d like a role or two in her productions (hint, hint)! Check out her bio & work below. Also check out her blog “FreeSpirit INK Realm“! (link below)
BIO
In 1996 Julia Aaryn Montanez began her career as a screenwriter and filmmaker by committing herself to various significant yet small film projects. From the very beginning Julia was quickly recognized by her Houston peers as a young woman whose stock was rising. Then in 2005 Julia went to New York to work as an assistant with two major entertainment companies. At the music production company Ear Goo, Inc., whose biggest client is MTV Networks. Julia established a reputation as a go to person in the management of several major projects including the then popular show 10 Spot and a few commercials. Julia’s second assistant job was with the prestigious PR firm Wolf-Kasteler-Van Iden & Associates. This firm represents a Who’s Who of A-list actors including Kim Basinger, Jason Bateman, John Cusack, Ted Danson, Jet Li, and more. After a year of simultaneously working for both companies, Julia relocated back to Houston and was promptly offered a vice president position with FahTru Media. FahTru Media is a multimedia company and entertainment management firm that provides television programming to a global network. In 2007, Julia produced and coordinated Houston’s first inner city film festival. The SOL Film Festival was developed to inspire local filmmakers to continue to strive for film industry greatness. From 2007 to 2008 Julia worked in New York, with award winning indie producer Lydia Dean Pilcher, of Cine Mosaic INC. Lydia has produced such films as Darjeeling Unlimited, Namesake, Mississippi Masala, Jesus’ Son, and Vanity Fair. During her time at Cine Mosaic, Julia found herself involved in just about all aspects of film development and production including Fox Searchlight’s box office hit Notorious, which is a biopic film on the life of the murdered rapper Notorious B.I.G. and she also worked on the film Amelia which is another biopic about Amelia Earhart; the first woman pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean and the circumstances of her unusual disappearance. The political satire, Cupid’s Pundit was Julia’s first screenwriting work to be entered into the Screenwriting International Competition. “Marathon”, Julia’s first feature length completed screenplay received honorable recognition, ranking in the TOP TEN FINALIST group of the “The 2009 AAA Screenplay Contest”. In 2010 Julia began working as Executive Assistant to the President of Rogue Entertainment Group, a talent agency based in Manhattan, NY that represented such actors as Jimmie Walker, Michael Winslow, Dustin Diamond, Ruben Studdard and many more. In 2011 she was one of the TOP TEN FINALIST in the American Express Tribeca Pitch Contest for her pitch of “Tempting Juliet”, a story that crosses the boundaries of love and race, as a young black girl falls in love with her white English high school teacher.
